How to Get Your Pipefitter License in California
Meet Basic Requirements
Be at least 18 years old with a valid ID. Pass a background check.
Complete Education
High school diploma or GED
Gain 4 Years of Experience
Completion of 4-year pipefitting apprenticeship or 8,000 hours of supervised experience.
Complete Apprenticeship
Complete 8,000 hours of apprenticeship training.
Pass the Pipefitter Journeyman Exam
Register with Prometric and pass the required licensing exam.
Obtain Insurance & Bonding
Secure General Liability, Workers Compensation insurance.
Submit Application
Apply to the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB). Pay the application and license fees.
