How to Get Your Welder License in California
Meet Basic Requirements
Be at least 18 years old with a valid ID.
Complete Education
High school diploma or GED; welding certification required
Gain 2 Years of Experience
Minimum 2 years of welding experience and AWS certification.
Pass the Welding Certification Test (AWS)
Register with American Welding Society and pass the required licensing exam.
Obtain Insurance & Bonding
Secure General Liability, Workers Compensation insurance.
Submit Application
Apply to the California Contractors State License Board (CSLB). Pay the application and license fees.
